The Hong Kong Jockey Club is the only legalised gambling institution in Hong Kong. It has an annual turnover of more than HK$100 billion and donates a large proportion of its surplus to charity.
Waters Economics team members headed up the economic aspects of an assessment of the economic and community impacts of the Club’s activities. The team also supported the development and implementation of the assessment of community impacts.
Assessing the economic impact required considering the unique status of the Club and its very high tax contribution. The community assessment focused on the club’s wide range of charitable donations, including contributions to arts, education, sports, health and community care projects and programmes.
